Most tractor units are sold against an average day. This one is sold against the heavy end of yours: the loaded tipper at the weighbridge, the machinery lowbed that must start on a grade, the descent a lighter rig survives only by riding its brakes. The BJ4259SMFKB-A5 is the EST-grade 6x4 semi-trailer tractor of the Auman heavy line, built to a 90-tonne gross combination weight with a 25,000 kg design gross mass on a 10,800 kg chassis, a 14,070 kg saddle load and a 79,070 kg permitted trailer mass behind it. Under the high-roof cab sits the Cummins ISGe5-460, 11,800 ml of Euro V diesel making 331 kW at 1900 rpm and 2300 N·m at 1100 rpm, driving through an aluminium-cased twelve-speed automated gearbox with an integrated hydraulic retarder. Each figure answers a question a fleet engineer asks before a driver touches the wheel: can it carry the load, climb with it, stop with it, and return tomorrow?

Read the masses first, because they define the entire contract this truck signs with your operation. The tractor itself weighs 10,800 kg in running order and is designed around a 25,000 kg gross vehicle weight, which is only reachable on three axles: nine tonnes on the steered front, sixteen tonnes on the driven rear pair. The fifth wheel carries a design vertical load of 14,070 kg, and the combination is approved to tow a trailer group of 79,070 kg, summing to the headline 90 tonnes. That saddle figure is the number bulk and machinery operators check with their thumb, because a trailer's kingplate load is where a heavy tipper or loaded lowbed actually punishes a tractor. A lighter 4x2 unit with a 13-tonne rear rating simply cannot accept that load without exceeding an axle, which is why a 6x4 prime mover of this class exists: the mass that a road-legal combination carries has to land somewhere, and this chassis is dimensioned to receive it through two driven axles, a cast bridge rear end and a balanced suspension rather than hoping a single axle absorbs it.

The engine is a Foton Cummins ISGe5-460, eleven point eight litres, high-pressure common rail, Euro V, with a silicone-oil fan behind the block. The torque figure is the headline: 331 kW, quoted as 460 hp, at 1900 rpm, with peak torque of 2300 N·m at 1100 rpm. A laden 6x4 prime mover pulls away, climbs a haul-road ramp and creeps onto a ferry deck at low engine speed, and every hundred revs spent hunting for power is fuel burnt without kilometres bought. Common rail demands clean fuel and disciplined filtration; water and particulates are paid for at the injector's price, so the fuel plan belongs in the specification conversation before delivery.

The transmission is the other half of the driveline argument. The 12TX2421TD is an aluminium-cased twelve-speed automated manual with the retarder named in the specification line, shifted automatically, on a 430 mm pull-type clutch actuated electrically rather than by cable and leg. An automated box buys consistency, not novelty: shift points that do not drift with driver mood, a clutch no one rides on an on-ramp, and a driver who finishes a mountain crossing without a burning left leg. The clutch stays in the driveline for low-speed control, but its engagement is metered by the controller instead of by a person at the worst moment of their shift. Final drive is offered rather than fixed, with 3.86, 4.03 and 4.2 ratios listed against top speeds of 89, 85 and 82 km/h, so the truck is matched to corridor speed rules and average laden distance instead of compromising one number for every route.

Braking a 90-tonne combination is a thermal problem before it is a friction one, and this build treats it that way from the first design line. The service system is dual-circuit air with drums at both ends and a spring-actuated, air-release parking brake, the architecture every heavy workshop in every market understands. The decisive item is the auxiliary brake: a hydraulic retarder coupled into the transmission, doing the long work of a descent. A loaded truck downhill converts the mass of a train and a half into heat at the wheels, and drums alone either absorb it until they fade or force low gears and brake pulses that cost linings and time. The retarder sheds most of that energy continuously through the transmission fluid, keeps drums cool for the moment they are actually needed, and lets the convoy hold a steady speed on the grade. For an operator running loaded down from a plateau haul road or a mountain pass, that single system changes tyre wear, lining wear, driver stress and the incident register at once. It also makes the descent predictable, which is what a following driver, a flagman and an insurer care about most. On a grade a drum-only rig takes at a crawl, this one holds a line and a speed, and the convoy arrives on schedule without the smell of hot linings at the bottom.

Underneath, the structure follows the same philosophy. The rails are 225/286 mm deep by 80 mm wide with an 8 plus 7 mm double web, outer width 900 mm forward and 850 mm behind, and the rear rides an integral balanced leaf-spring bogie with twelve leaves against nine at the front, plus an anti-roll bar and shock absorbers. The rear end is the sixteen-tonne cast-bridge axle with self-adjusting brake arms on ABS. A balanced bogie does a specific job: it shares kingplate load across both driven axles and lets the bogie hinge over ruts and ramp angles instead of one wheel unloading, which on a loaded mining haulage truck shuttle means traction an unbalanced rig loses the moment the tip is full. Tyres are 295/80R22.5 18PR on steer and drive, the regional stock size, with the heavy AM90H-VS steering gear at the nine-tonne front.

The cab is the EST-2490 high-roof body for two occupants, equipped for long duty: automatic air conditioning, electric windows, central, remote and five-lock unification, an air-sprung heated high-spec driver seat, electric heated mirrors, and an MP3, radio and USB head unit without radar. The electrical system runs 240Ah AGM batteries, fuel sits in a 700-litre aluminium tank, the bumpers are split metal, the fenders integral, with a working walkway behind the cab for coupling. Speed is governed at 110 km/h with tested maxima lower by ratio choice, and gradeability is at least 25%, which covers every ramp, weighbridge approach, ferry apron and haul-road incline this class meets in normal service. Dimensions of 7105×2540×3850 mm unladen, 3750 mm laden, on a 3300 plus 1400 mm wheelbase with 2061 and 1865 mm tracks, keep the rig inside the envelopes corridors already accommodate.

Where does a rig like this earn? The natural home is heavy bulk movement: coal, ore, aggregate, clinker, grain and fertilizer between pit, plant, port and depot. A mining haulage truck contract pulling a tipper at ninety tonnes gross is exactly the load this saddle rating and retarder were dimensioned for, and on that duty the value is measured in tons per cycle and brakes per year, not brochure figures. The second case is bulk cargo transport on public corridors: multi-axle tippers and tank semi-trailers where every extra tonne of legal payload pays for the fuel, and the 79,070 kg permitted trailer mass lets an operator fill the envelope with product rather than compromise.

The third is project and machinery logistics: transformers, excavators, piling rigs and pressed steel on a multi-line lowbed, where the kingplate load spikes past anything a road tractor ever sees and the convoy crawls short distances under escort at walking pace. A heavy haulage tractor earns its extra structure on that first permit, because the load on the deck is only half the story; the concentration at the pin, the low-speed traction demand and the braking of that mass into a site entrance are all decided by the chassis, and a general-purpose tractor asked to do the same job spends its life over-axled. The fourth is port shuttle work between quay, yard and bond store where loaded trains queue on gradients. The fifth is quarry and batching supply into construction corridors, where a heavy haulage tractor with a high-tip body runs short cycles under constant load, and every mechanical choice here, cast housing to retarder, is billed back to the workshop.

The ownership case rounds out plainly. A Cummins engine and an automated driveline are known quantities wherever this class is sold, keeping parts, diagnostics and training ordinary. Drums are cheap to reline and the retarder protects them and the tyres on every downgrade. AGM batteries tolerate deep cycling; the 700-litre tank carries a full day of heavy short cycles between bowsers. The recorded commercial offer for this model is bank transfer at 30 percent in advance with the 70 percent balance before delivery, a 45-working-day manufacturing cycle from receipt of payment, quotation validity of 30 days and a product warranty of 12 months, terms to write into the contract exactly as listed rather than paraphrase later.

What this truck is not is stated once. It is not a line-haul tractor chasing kilometres at maximum revs; its ratios, retarder and ratings aim at load density and grades. Fuel discipline is a condition of common rail, not a suggestion, and the exact registration masses, axle tolerances and legal limits follow the authority in the operating country: the figures here are design values from the approval record. Send the trailer type, kingplate load at full product, the descent profile and the registration country, and the bulk cargo transport duty above will be confirmed against real numbers rather than a promise.
