Two Auman 6×4 tippers, both driven by an 11,800 ml Foton Cummins at 400 hp, both on a 3,825 plus 1,350 mm wheelbase, both carrying 350 litres of diesel in an aluminium tank, both stopped by air drums with ABS. One costs $52,200 and is rated at 70 tonnes. The other costs $60,504 and is rated at 55 tonnes. A buyer reading only the price column would assume the second one is the heavier machine. It is not.

The comparison is not a question of better or worse. These are two different tonnage classes sharing an engine family, and picking between them comes down to what your permit allows, what your body needs to hold, and what your registration office will accept.
The overlap is substantial. Both are left-hand drive, flat-roof, two-seat day cabs on leaf spring suspension with an identical final drive ratio of 4.76 and the same 16-tonne rear axle capacity. Both carry eleven wheels and both use ABS-controlled air drum brakes. The GTL-E 70T steps up the chassis hardware, while the GTL 55T spends its money on certification, gearbox ratios and cab detail.

Start here, because nothing else on the sheet moves your operating economics as much. The GTL-E lists 70,000 kg and a 70T tonnage class; the GTL lists 55,000 kg and a 55T class. On a quarry cycle paid by the tonne, a larger rated machine moves more material per pass, and every saved pass is a saved loader-swing, a saved ramp climb and a saved return leg.
Two cautions before you act on that. First, the two sheets label their figures differently: the GTL-E records GCW, meaning gross combined weight, while the GTL records GVW, meaning gross vehicle weight. Confirm with the sales team which figure your permit authority will actually test against, because the two terms are not interchangeable on a weighbridge. Second, a higher rating only converts into money if the roads or haul roads you run on legally tolerate it.
A truck rated 15 tonnes above another is only better if your licence, your haul road and your loader all agree. Otherwise you are paying to carry capability you cannot bill for.
The GTL-E backs up its higher rating with hardware, not badges. Its front axle is rated 9 tonnes against 7.5 tonnes on the GTL, and its rear suspension carries fourteen leaves against twelve. That is a meaningful difference on a machine that spends its life taking impact load from a tipping body and from the ruts and berms of a working face. Its description also cites a specialised desert air intake system, which is a real consideration anywhere dust loading is the main enemy of engine life.

The GTL 55T is not simply the lighter sibling. It carries Euro III certification where the GTL-E carries none, which is the same registration question that decided the tractor comparison: if your market requires a declared standard, the GTL-E may not be registrable regardless of how much it can haul. Its listing also covers specific markets, naming Saudi Arabia as the sales country plus Panama, French Polynesia, Kyrgyzstan, Guinea, Uruguay and Jamaica.
It also publishes the details that make quoting and upfitting easy: internal body dimensions of 5,600 by 2,300 by 1,500 mm, which works out at roughly 19.3 cubic metres struck capacity, and an overall chassis of 8,545 by 2,550 by 3,500 mm. The GTL-E sheet does not publish body dimensions at all, so if you are matching a machine to a specific bulk density, ask for them before you commit.
Then there is the gearbox. The GTL runs a Shaanxi Fast twelve-speed iron case; the GTL-E runs a Sinotruk unit with a lower designation. Twelve closely spaced ratios give finer control on a loaded ramp where you want the engine in a narrow band and do not want a large gap between gears. It also lists ZF steering rather than the GTL-E's AM105L box, electric windows, central locking, five-lock unification and a standard airbag seat, against the GTL-E's power windows, central locking and automatic climate control.
Do not skip this line. The GTL-E runs 13R22.5 18PR tubeless radials in a mixed arrangement; the GTL runs eleven 12.00R20 Z8 radials. Those suit different ground. A tubeless 22.5-inch radial is the modern highway-and-haul-road choice, lighter, running cooler and easier to repair. A 12.00R20 radial is the traditional quarry and construction size with a deeper, more abuse-tolerant casing, and it is the size most likely to be sitting on a shelf at a roadside tyre shop in the markets where these trucks work.
The honest test is simple: how far is your nearest replacement tyre, and how much does an hour of downtime cost you? If the answer to the first is far and the second is a lot, choose the tyre you can actually buy locally, not the one that looks better on paper.

$60,504 · 55,000 kg · ISGe3-400 · Euro III · Fast 12-speed · 19.3 m³ body · ZF steering
View full specificationChoose the GTL 55T if your market requires Euro III certification; if you need a published body volume to match your material density; if fine ratio control on loaded ramps matters more than the extra fifteen tonnes; if 12.00R20 is the tyre you can actually source locally; or if you operate in Saudi Arabia or one of the covered markets where the homologation and support paperwork already exists.

Same family and same displacement, different calibration and designation. The GTL-E uses the Foton Cummins ISG 400 and the GTL uses the Beijing Foton Cummins ISGe3-400. Both displace 11,800 ml; the GTL-E is listed at 2,100 Nm and the GTL at 2,000 Nm, both peaking at 1,000 rpm.
Because the price tracks certification and included specification, not rated mass. The GTL 55T carries Euro III certification, a twelve-speed Fast gearbox, ZF steering and a published homologation record for several named markets. Those are costed items that have nothing to do with how much the machine can legally carry.
Ask your registration authority directly. The GTL-E sheet records gross combined weight at 70,000 kg and the GTL sheet records gross vehicle weight at 55,000 kg. Those two terms describe different things and the local permit will specify which one is tested.
No. The GTL-E sheet gives chassis dimensions of 8,390 by 2,500 by 3,450 mm and a 2,490 mm body width, but does not list internal body measurements. The GTL publishes 5,600 by 2,300 by 1,500 mm, roughly 19.3 cubic metres struck. Request the GTL-E body drawing before comparing capacities.
It depends on the ramp. Twelve ratios give closer spacing, which keeps the engine in its torque band through a loaded climb and reduces the rev drop on each upshift. If your cycles are short, flat and repetitive that advantage shrinks, and the simpler case may be cheaper to maintain.
