Auman GTL 8x4 Mixer With 400 hp: Reading the Spec Before You Buy

Writer:Alan Chen(Foton Auman dealer)

Every concrete fleet eventually reaches the same fork: keep paying for a European eight-wheeler, or look seriously at something built to a price. This listing sits squarely in the second camp — a Foton Auman GTL 8×4 mixer chassis rated at 44 tonnes with a Cummins ISG 12 up front and a FAST nine-speed behind it, homologated as a complete mixer rather than sold as a bare chassis. The reasonable doubt is not about the spec sheet; it is whether those numbers hold up on your roads, under your axle limits, with your drivers. Below is how I would read this configuration as a buyer, and what I would insist on before money moved.

Complete-vehicle status: chassis, cab and mixer body homologated together, dimensions 9,935 × 2,495 × 3,900 mm.

What you are actually being sold

Start with the identification rows, because they stop you comparing the wrong thing. Approved model BJ5319GJB-AF, series GTL, function mixer truck, brand "Pumping Machinery", business line Heavy Truck (H1), tonnage 44T, drive 8×4, wheelbase 1,800 + 3,050 + 1,350 mm, GVW 44,000 kg, body width 2,490 mm, flat roof, three seats, diesel, left-hand drive. Note the last one: this entry is specified left-hand drive, so if you operate in a right-hand-drive market, ask about availability rather than assuming it exists. The row that matters most for fleet planning is the final one — status is recorded as a complete vehicle, which means type approval covers chassis, cab and mixer body as a package.

Powertrain: ISGe4-400 and where the torque arrives

The engine is the Foton Cummins ISGe4-400, carrying the ISG 12 family designation, with 11,800 cc displacement, Euro IV emissions achieved through SCR, and published output of 400 PS with 2,100 Nm at 1,000 rpm. That torque peak is the number worth circling. A mixer spends its day pulling away loaded on gradients that would barely register in a line-haul tractor, and torque arriving at 1,000 rpm means you are not slipping the clutch to get moving.

SCR means AdBlue is a consumable you must manage. Let DEF levels lapse or ignore a dosing fault and the engine derates — and a derated mixer mid-pour costs you far more than the drum capacity it was carrying. Plan the top-up routine before delivery, because site supply is rarely where you need it. Behind the engine sits the FAST 9JSD220TA nine-speed. Nine ratios give you the steps to keep the engine in its torque band through the stop-start grind between plant and pour; there is no automated option listed here, so if driver recruitment is your constraint, raise it early.

"Diesel is the easy part of this decision. Managing AdBlue is the discipline nobody budgets for, and it derates the truck if you get it wrong."

Axles, brakes and frame

Front axle capacity is 6.5 t, middle and rear axles 13 t each, with a 5.73 drive axle ratio. That combination is exactly what you want on site: a numerically high final drive multiplies the 2,100 Nm into real pulling force at low speed. The trade-off is cruising rpm, so if your batching plants are far apart and highway running dominates your duty cycle, ask what alternative ratios are available — a swapped axle ratio changes both gradeability and engine speed at cruise, and it is far cheaper to get it right on the order than to live with afterwards. Suspension is leaf spring throughout with a 13/14, 12 leaf count, running on 13 tyres in 315/80R22.5.

Brakes are an air-brake system with front drum and rear drum foundations and ABS listed as the brake control system. Read that honestly: you are buying drum foundations and standard ABS, not discs and not a listed hydraulic retarder. For loaded descents, the pack's own answer points to the engine brake as the primary auxiliary means of holding speed, so ask the dealer directly what additional braking options exist for your terrain. The frame cross-section is 225/320×90×(8+7) mm — a heavy section appropriate to the torsional loads a rotating drum puts through the rails — and steering is by an AM90L-S gear.

The drum: what the sheet does and does not say

Here you have to be disciplined, because this is where listings get vague. The accompanying description refers to a ten cubic metre mixer with a large-capacity drum, but the technical table itself carries no drum-row — no stated mixing volume, no water tank capacity, no charge or discharge rate, no drum material and crucially no named hydraulic components. Compare that with chassis listings that name the pump, motor and reducer brands, and you can see the gap. None of that means the equipment is poor; it means none of it is documented here. If you are buying to a duty cycle, get the drum volume, the hydraulic pump and motor makes and the reducer in writing, together with drum rotation speed and residual discharge performance.

Cab and daily operating kit

The cab is the GTL flat-roof, 2,490 mm wide, seating three. Standard equipment lists power windows, central locking, the five-in-one lock, an airbag seat as standard and manual mirrors; infotainment is MP3 with radio, USB and GTL radar, and air conditioning is manual. The fuel tank is a 350-litre aluminium alloy unit. That is a workmanlike rather than a luxurious specification, which is the right answer for a mixer: airbag seats and electric windows are the two things drivers actually notice shift after shift, and they are present. What is not listed is anything unusual — no fridge, no premium trim — so do not let anybody sell you a specification the table does not contain.

"Drivers rarely complain about horsepower. They complain about seats, mirrors and cab temperature — and those are exactly the rows to check on any quote."

The money question

This configuration is listed at USD 67,540, and there is a separate quoted figure of USD 58,000 attached to vehicle number 5319GJB00-AFDA01. Those are different bases, and the first thing to establish in writing is which one your order reflects. Then establish what sits outside it: freight, insurance, homologation paperwork and local duty can move the landed number substantially, and none of that is in the table.

The obvious comparison is with a used or new European eight-wheeler, and you should make it on cost per cubic metre delivered, not sticker price. The honest accounting runs both ways. On the credit side: Cummins power, a FAST gearbox, ABS, a heavy frame section and a genuine 13-tonne rear axle line. On the debit side: drum foundations rather than discs, no listed retarder, a manual box, a manual air-conditioning system, and residual value that will depend entirely on how well the brand has established itself in your market by the time you sell.

Markets and homologation

The listing names sales as general countries and specifically covers Ethiopia, Colombia, Costa Rica, Peru and Mexico, which tells you something useful: this configuration has been prepared with hot, dusty, often high-route and sometimes high-altitude markets in mind, and with left-hand drive as standard. Homologation is Euro IV, so confirm today whether Euro IV is still registrable where you operate, because a truck that cannot be registered is not a bargain at any price. Also establish which parts stock exists locally and who does warranty work, since the nearest dealer is a bigger ownership variable than anything in this table.

Questions buyers ask before signing

Can this mixer run legally at 44 tonnes?

The chassis carries a 44,000 kg GVW rating and is homologated as a complete mixer, but whether you may actually run at that mass depends on the axle-group and road limits of your country and your specific route, not on the truck. A 6.5 t front axle and 13 t rear axles on an 8×4 are engineered for the load, yet plenty of markets cap mixers well below 44 t. State your enforced limit and get the legal batch size confirmed in writing.

Does Euro IV SCR mean AdBlue?

Yes. The ISGe4-400 reaches Euro IV through SCR, so DEF must be kept supplied and the dosing system kept fault-free, or the engine derates. In return you get 2,100 Nm available from just 1,000 rpm, which is precisely what loaded mixers need on ramps. AdBlue is generally available across the countries listed, but site supply is uneven, so make a top-up routine part of the shift plan.

How does it cope with steep site access?

Within its stated design envelope, well: the 5.73 axle ratio, 2,100 Nm from 1,000 rpm and the nine-speed FAST box give strong low-speed pulling on ramps, and the engine brake helps hold speed on long loaded descents. The chassis is specified for graded and ungraded engineering roads, gravel and dusty sites rather than soft uncompacted ground, where tyres and ground conditions decide the outcome. Share your gradients before you order.
