Is the Aumark TX 5-Ton 90 hp Mini Truck Enough for Your Work?

Writer:Alan Chen(Foton Auman dealer)

Entry-level light trucks are bought on one question: will it do the job every day without becoming a liability? At 6 tonnes GVW and 90 hp, the Foton Aumark TX 5-ton mini truck is deliberately at the simple end of the range — a Yunnei diesel, a five-speed Wanliyang gearbox, air brakes and a single-row cab seating three. Simple is often the right answer for urban logistics, agricultural transport and construction material transfer. It is also where the compromises hide, and three of them on this sheet deserve your attention before you order.

Where a 6-tonner with a 5.571 axle belongs

The driveline tells you the intended duty immediately. A Yunnei YN4100 — 3,612 cc, 66.2 kW (90 PS), 230 Nm — drives through a five-speed Wanliyang WLY5G28 to a 5-tonne rear axle at a 5.571 final ratio. That is a very short axle. It multiplies torque hard, so the truck pulls away cleanly even at its 6-tonne GVW, and the 3+1 front and 6+7 rear leaf packs with a 170 x 60 x 5 mm frame take the load.

The trade-off is speed. A 5.571 ratio with five gears means a low top end, which is why this specification suits short-haul work: urban logistics distribution, moving agricultural produce from farms to market, and shifting construction material around a site or across town. For regular intercity running, a higher-powered model is the better buy, and you should be honest with yourself about which of those two jobs you are buying for.

"A 5.571 axle is a pulling ratio, not a cruising one. Buy it for short hauls and loaded starts; buy something else for distance."

The brakes: read this line carefully

Brakes are air operated with front and rear drums, and the brake control system is listed as a load sensing proportioning valve — not ABS. That distinction matters. A load sensing valve adjusts braking force to the load, which is genuinely useful on a truck that runs empty one trip and full the next. What it does not do is prevent wheel lock-up in an emergency.

Drum air brakes with a load sensing valve — no ABS listed on this specification.

Two consequences. First, if ABS is a requirement for your registration or your fleet safety policy, ask whether it is available on this platform before assuming it is fitted. Second, driver technique matters more without ABS — particularly on loose or wet surfaces, where a locked wheel on a loaded 6-tonner is a serious event. Build that into your driver induction rather than discovering it later.

Euro I: the biggest single risk on the sheet

The emission standard is Euro I — the simplest level in the Aumark TX range, and the main reason this truck can be priced where it is. It brings no aftertreatment, a low purchase price and easy field repair, and it is still accepted for commercial registration in a number of Central Asian and African markets, which is why this specification is offered for Turkmenistan.

But Euro I is being phased out in some countries, and this is the item most likely to sink the purchase. Send the seller your registration city — not just the country — and get written confirmation that Euro I will clear before you commit. A truck that cannot be registered is not cheap at any price, and this is exactly the kind of detail that gets discovered after the deposit has moved.

You are buying a chassis-cab, not a finished truck

The list price covers the chassis-cab with the standard specification: MP3 with Bluetooth, manual windows and mirrors, air brakes with the load sensing valve, 7.00R16 tyres and a 120-litre tank. Air conditioning and the cargo body are both options, priced separately. That is the single most important commercial fact on the page.

Body and air conditioning are both optional — neither is in the list price.

It also means the payload question is genuinely open. The sheet publishes a 6-tonne GVW but no kerb weight and no rated payload, so nothing here tells you what you can legally carry until the body is specified and weighed. Give the seller your body requirement and ask for the payload of the finished vehicle in writing. Do the same for the air conditioning — in Turkmenistan's summer it is not really optional, and it should be in the quote rather than discovered on delivery.

"Chassis-cab means the body and the air conditioning are still to be paid for. Price the finished truck, not the chassis."

Matching it to the three listed jobs

Urban logistics distribution suits it well. At 5,995 mm long, 2,000 mm wide with a 3,360 mm wheelbase and a 1,800 mm body width, it will go places a 7.5-tonner cannot, and three seats means a mate rides along without a second vehicle. For multi-drop city work, access beats capacity.

Urban distribution: three seats, tight turning circle, low running costs.

Agricultural product transport is a good fit for the same reason plus the torque: 230 Nm through a 5.571 axle moves produce from farm to market on rough tracks without drama. Construction material transfer works in moderation — sand, blocks and bagged cement in sensible quantities. Bulk aggregate is a different proposition; a 6-tonne GVW runs out of capacity long before a 5-tonne rear axle does, and no gearing changes that.

Price, freight and the realistic total

The published figures are a listed price of 12,718 USD and an FOB reference of 8,600 USD. Freight, insurance and destination charges are quoted only once you name a discharge port, and on a vehicle at this price they are a meaningful share of the total. Add the body and the air conditioning on top of that, and the realistic figure is well above the headline — which is fine, provided you compare like with like rather than against another chassis-cab.

Against a used Japanese or European light truck at similar money, the argument for buying new here is predictability: no inherited faults, a known specification, and the option to specify the body you actually need. Against a newer, cleaner truck, the argument is purchase price and mechanical simplicity. Which wins depends on your registration rules and your access to repair — both of which you should establish before signing. Start with the Aumark TX product page and put your body weight, destination and registration city in the same enquiry.

Questions buyers ask before signing

Can a Euro I light truck still be registered?

Euro I is the simplest emission level in the Aumark TX range and is still accepted for commercial registration in a number of Central Asian and African markets, which is why this specification is offered for Turkmenistan. It brings no aftertreatment, a low purchase price and easy field repair. Because Euro I is being phased out in some countries, give your registration city and get acceptance confirmed before committing.

Will 90 hp pull a full load on rural roads?

In its class, yes. The Yunnei YN4100 produces 230 Nm and the 5.571 final drive multiplies it hard, so the truck pulls away cleanly at 6 tonnes GVW, helped by the 3+1 front and 6+7 rear leaf springs and the 170 x 60 x 5 frame. The trade-off is a low top speed, which is why the five-speed Wanliyang box suits short-haul work. For regular intercity running, a higher-powered model is the better buy.

Does the price include the body and freight?

No. The list price covers the chassis-cab with MP3 and Bluetooth, manual windows and mirrors, air brakes with a load sensing valve, 7.00R16 tyres and a 120-litre tank. Air conditioning and the cargo body are options priced separately, and freight, insurance and destination charges are quoted only once you give a discharge port. Send your body requirement and destination for a landed figure.

What is missing from the specification?

Three things worth chasing: a kerb weight and a rated payload, since neither is published and the body is optional; confirmation of whether ABS is available, because the sheet lists a load sensing valve instead; and the exact tyre and body dimensions for the configuration you are quoted.

"Simple is a feature until the registration office disagrees. Confirm Euro I at city level before you fall in love with the price."
