Specifying a truck for long-haul work in Nigeria is not the same job as specifying one for Europe. Your route mix will probably include paved trunk roads, broken surfaces and site access, your fuel quality varies by region, and the difference between a truck that earns and a truck that sits is usually the final drive ratio rather than the horsepower. The Foton Auman GTL-E 6x4 340hp 55T is built for that reality: a 6x4 chassis, 1,800 Nm available from 1,000 rpm, a 5.26 final drive and a 600-litre aluminium tank. It is also a truck with one line on its specification sheet that should stop you for a moment, and we will come to it.
The announcement model is BJ1259VMPKP-01, a heavy truck on the GTL-E platform with a 6x4 drive configuration and axle spacing of 5,900 + 1,400 mm. Overall dimensions are 12,000 × 2,550 × 3,800 mm, with a body width of 2,490 mm and a flat roof. Gross vehicle weight is 25,000 kg and gross combination weight is 45,000 kg — that GCW figure is the one to note if you ever intend to pull a drawbar trailer behind the rigid, because it tells you the driveline and braking are specified well above the rigid body's own needs.
The frame section is 225/320 × 90 × (8+7) mm, which is a deep, double-gauge section appropriate to a 55-tonne class platform. Suspension is leaf spring, 10 blades front and 12 rear. Front axle load is rated at 9 tonnes and the middle and rear axles at 13 tonnes each. Steering gear is the AM105L-S, and braking is air-operated with ABS.
Rated output is 250 kW / 340 PS at 1,900 rpm from a 10.5-litre diesel, and torque is 1,800 Nm at just 1,000 rpm. That torque figure and that engine speed are what you should be buying. A plateau that starts at 1,000 rpm means the engine is pulling hard almost from idle, which is exactly what you need for loaded starts on an unmade surface, for creeping through a market town, and for holding a gear up a long grade rather than hunting between ratios.
One inconsistency needs resolving before you order. The listing headline calls this a Foton Cummins ISG340, the specification table lists the engine manufacturer as Fawec Engine, and the product copy describes a FAW ISG 340. All three may be describing the same base engine family under different branding conventions, but you should ask the dealer for the engine nameplate and the emissions documentation for the exact unit quoted, because parts sourcing and warranty both follow from who actually made it.
"340 horsepower sells the truck. 1,800 Nm at 1,000 rpm is what actually gets it moving with 25 tonnes behind it."
The 12-speed 12JSD180T gearbox — a Faiste unit, designated F-12MT in the listing — drives a 5.26 final drive ratio. That is a short ratio. It favours loaded starts, gradients and poor surfaces over flat-out cruising, and paired with 1,800 Nm from 1,000 rpm it will pull strongly from a standstill. The cost is real: higher engine rpm and higher fuel burn at sustained highway speed.
So the question you have to answer honestly is what proportion of your kilometres is trunk road. If your route is mostly paved and flat and you want quiet, economical cruising, ask the dealer for a taller ratio — the option list includes alternative middle and rear axle specifications. If your work includes site access, unmade surfaces or regular full-load hill starts, keep the 5.26 and accept the fuel penalty, because the alternative is a truck that cannot start where you need it to.
The cargo area measures 9,600 × 2,300 × 1,500 mm, which works out at roughly 33 cubic metres of load volume. Note the height: 1,500 mm is a relatively low box for a body this length, so the spec is optimised for dense, palletised freight rather than tall, light volume. Courier and parcel operators will fill that volume long before approaching the 25,000 kg GVW, so for that business the box is the right shape and bulky, light freight is where you gain most.
If your cargo is dense rather than voluminous, the calculus changes. Give the dealer your cargo density and have the axle split checked before you order, because a dense load over the rear bogie can breach the 13-tonne axle rating while the total stays inside GVW. The specification notes that the body, rear axle, tyres and transmission can all be specified from the option list, so a different body height is a conversation worth having.
Seating capacity is two with left-hand drive. Standard air conditioning is automatic, which is the right choice for a hot-climate market and one less thing to specify later. The entertainment package is MP3, radio and USB, with no radar, and an MSW upgrade is available as an option. The body kit is generous for this class: electric windows, central locking, remote lock, five-lock integration, an air suspension seat and manual mirrors.
That air suspension driver's seat is worth more than it sounds on a long-haul roster. Combined with the 600-litre aluminium tank, which reduces refuelling stops on long corridors, the specification shows a truck laid out for distance. Optional satellite positioning is listed, which most operators running long routes in this market will want for security and for tracking driver hours.
"A 600-litre tank and an air-suspended seat tell you what this truck was drawn for: distance, with a driver who has to stay in it."
The specification table lists the emission standard as "No Emission". Read that as the sheet stating no emission standard applies to this configuration — which is consistent with a unit built for the Nigerian market and with a fuel type of diesel. If you intend to register or operate this truck anywhere with an enforced emissions regime, that single line is the most important thing on the page.
It also affects your fuel strategy. Engines built without after-treatment are generally more tolerant of variable fuel quality than SCR-equipped engines, which is an advantage in markets where diesel sulphur content is inconsistent. But if you might later move this vehicle into a regulated market, settle that with the dealer before purchase.
The listed price is $45,900. Confirm what that covers — whether it is FOB, whether shipping, insurance, duty and registration are included, and whether the body as configured is inside the figure. On a 12-metre rigid, freight and duty alone move the landed number substantially, so do not build a business case on the list price.
Tyres are 12R22.5 18-ply hybrid pattern, eleven of them including the spare, with alternatives listed as options. Eleven tyres in that size is a meaningful recurring cost on a long-haul truck — ask for local price and availability in your operating region before you commit, because a truck that cannot be tyred locally is a truck that waits. The hybrid pattern suggests a tread for mixed paved and unpaved use, which fits the 5.26 ratio's intent.
The product copy claims low-maintenance components and reduced downtime, but no service intervals are published on the sheet. Ask for the recommended service interval in kilometres for the engine and driveline you are buying, plus the cost of a scheduled service in your market. On long-haul work that number, not the purchase price, decides your cost per kilometre.
For Nigerian long-haul logistics and courier work, this is a coherent specification: torque-rich engine, short final drive, deep frame, big tank and a cab specified for heat and distance. The Auman GTL-E 6x4 cargo truck page is where you settle the ratio, the body and the paperwork.
The box measures 9,600 × 2,300 × 1,500 mm, giving roughly 33 cubic metres of load volume on a 25,000 kg GVW / 45,000 kg GCW chassis. Courier and parcel operators will fill the volume long before reaching the weight limit, so the box is the right shape for that business; bulky, light freight is where you gain most. If your cargo is dense rather than voluminous, give the dealer the density and have the axle split checked before you order.
5.26 is a fairly short final drive, so it favours loaded starts, gradients and unmade surfaces over flat-out cruising; with the 12-speed 12JSD180T and 1,800 Nm from 1,000 rpm it pulls strongly from a standstill. The cost is higher engine rpm and fuel burn at sustained highway speed. If your route is mostly paved trunk road, ask for a taller ratio; if it includes site access, poor surfaces or regular full-load hill starts, keep the 5.26.
Yes. This is a complete cargo truck built on the GTL-E platform, and the body, rear axle, tyres and transmission can all be specified from the option list — the 12R22.5 hybrid tyres, 5.26 rear axle and 12JSD180T gearbox are the defaults here. Options such as satellite positioning, remote locking and an upgraded entertainment package are also available. Send your cargo type, loading method and required internal dimensions and have a body quoted to suit.
