A Bangladeshi operator putting a 49-seat coach on the Dhaka–Chittagong corridor is buying uptime, not horsepower. The routes are long, the roads are mixed, the heat is relentless, and the single biggest cost after fuel is the day the bus does not roll. The Foton AUV 12-metre diesel coach in the material is built for exactly this duty: a right-hand-drive, high-capacity intercity and tour body on air suspension, with a 330 HP engine and a six-speed manual that any roadside workshop in the country can service. This article covers that one scenario — passenger transport in Bangladesh — using only the figures published with the listing.
One gap in the sheet deserves a flag up front: the material does not state an emission standard for this coach. I will not invent one. The diesel is a Yuchai YCK08330-50, but whether it is Euro III, IV or V for Bangladeshi type approval is not on the page, and that is the kind of detail you must confirm with the supplier and the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority before you pay. Everything else below is taken directly from the specification.
The coach is listed at 49 passenger seats with a product model BJ6122 and exterior dimensions of 12,500 × 2,550 × 3,790 mm. The 12.5-metre length is the standard for a full-size intercity and tour coach, and the 2,550 mm width is the maximum most Asian road rules allow without special permit. Inside, the inner height is at least 1,900 mm, which is the figure that decides whether your passengers — and your conductors — can stand and move without stooping on a long haul. For a Bangladeshi operator running sleeper or semi-sleeper tours, that headroom is a selling point you can quote to customers.
The body is a launder-type structure on a semi-monocoque frame. The driver sits in a right-hand-drive position with an adjustable airbag seat and a three-point safety belt, and the guide seat is a high-back unit with its own three-point belt. A fabric driver-side curtain and a single-layer inner-sliding colourless driver window are listed — modest comfort features, but worth noting because in the Bangladeshi climate the driver's environment decides how cleanly the coach is run over a 10-hour shift.

The engine is a Yuchai YCK08330-50 rated at 330 HP (243 kW) at 2,200 rpm, with 1,700 Nm of torque at 1,200 rpm. That torque figure is the one that matters on a loaded coach climbing the gentler grades between divisions: it tells you the bus pulls from low rpm without thrashing the gearbox. The transmission is a Fast 6DS180T six-speed manual with transmission control "with" — meaning the control unit is present, though the sheet does not describe it as automated. A manual is the right call for this market: parts are cheap, any mechanic knows it, and a clutch is a clutch. The listed clutch is a SACHS φ430 unit, a recognised name.
Axles are a 6.5-tonne front and a 13-tonne rear, and steering is integral power steering. Fuel is carried in two 300-litre tanks (300 L × 2 = 600 L total), which on a long intercity loop is what keeps the coach running a full Dhaka–cox's Bazar round trip without a mid-route fuel stop. The electrical system is 24 V DC with two 195 Ah maintenance-free batteries.
Passenger comfort on a 12.5-metre coach lives or dies on the suspension, and here the spec is strong: Koman air suspension with six airbags, configured two front and four rear (F2/R4). Air suspension is what keeps a full coach from pitching on the broken sections of national highway, and it is a genuine step up from leaf springs for a tour product where comfort sells seats. Braking is disc at both ends with a listed braking distance of 10 metres or less from 30 km/h at full load — a figure you should verify independently on a loaded test, but one that is credible for a disc-braked coach of this size.

Bangladesh regulates axle load under its national motor-vehicle rules — a single-axle limit around 10 t, a tandem around 22 t and gross combination weight near 44 t — enforced by the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority at weighbridges on the trunk network. Chittagong feeds the garment-export economy, and the freight runs on congested river-crossing roads. The practical catch is that the wet season and the congested corridors punish an over-loaded rigid, so the axle distribution has to be right at the gate. The core business is garment-export and port freight, and the wet-season roads punish an over-loaded rigid, so the axle distribution has to be right before the truck leaves the gate.
For a long-haul rig the margin question is the GCW cap, which leaves little headroom once fuel and a full load are added — a tractor rated well above the legal train limit is mostly academic on Bangladeshi roads.
In Bangladesh the reference vehicle is a Japanese truck — Isuzu, Hino and Mitsubishi Fuso dominate and are often locally assembled — with Sinotruk and Shacman as the main Chinese competition. The Japanese brands win on parts density and service reach, but the new Chinese truck wins on warranty and price. Japanese trucks and the local assembly sector dominate, and Foton has to pitch on price and parts reach. Foton’s pitch is a modern truck at a value price with a growing parts network.
Emission standard is not on the sheet. Neither Euro stage nor a Bangladesh-equivalent is stated. Confirm the exact emission calibration and its acceptance with the BRTA and the supplier before you pay, because a coach you cannot register is a coach you cannot run.
Verify the braking distance on a loaded test. The 10 m from 30 km/h at full load is a published figure. Replicate it with your typical passenger and luggage load before relying on it for a safety case.
Clarify the transmission control. The sheet says "transmission control: with" on a manual 6DS180T. Ask whether this is a basic control unit or any assisted-shift feature, so you know what the workshop needs to support.
Match fuel capacity to your longest loop. 600 L total covers most intercity routes, but confirm the twin-tank layout and which side each filler sits before you plan depot fuelling.
For a Bangladeshi operator, the AUV 12-metre coach is a sensible, serviceable intercity and tour platform: 49 seats, right-hand drive, air suspension and a 330 HP Yuchai that any local workshop can keep running. Resolve the emission question on paper, prove the brakes on a loaded run, and it is a defensible backbone for a passenger fleet.
