The Antofagasta corridor is one of the most demanding freight routes in the world: copper concentrate and supplies move between the port and mines at altitude, on long legs where fuel stops are spaced by geography and breakdowns are measured in lost shifts. Two Auman tractor trucks are candidates for this duty in the product data — the EST-A 6×2R at 440 hp and the Galaxy EST-U at 560 hp — and they sit $23,853 apart at listing.
Rather than repeat a brochure comparison, this article is a checklist: five things to settle before an order for Chilean corridor duty, each checked against what the listings actually declare. The pattern that emerges matters more than the price: one of these trucks is listed for Chile by name, and the other is not listed for this market at all — a fact that shapes how much of the specification you can verify before the dealer fills the gaps.
The EST-A 6×2R's sales field names Chile — the only declared market link to this corridor in the pair. Its use case names long-haul trucking, cross-border freight, copper mine haulage, container trunking and refrigerated line haul: the corridor's duty cycle described in the listing's own words. The Galaxy EST-U's title references Mexico and Peru, and its sales and coverage fields are both empty.
That does not disqualify the Galaxy for Chilean work — a listing's sales field records where a configuration was offered, not everywhere it can be supplied — but it does mean the Galaxy's suitability for this market is entirely a dealer question. Before shortlisting it, get written confirmation of what configuration would be supplied, what its local support looks like, and why it is not listed here.
The EST-A runs the ZF12TX2420TD in an aluminium housing — the automated manual its title calls ZF-12AMT — with a 2.846 final drive, 2,193 Nm declared at 1,400 rpm, Euro V, and leaf-spring/air suspension. The Galaxy runs a 12TX2621TD aluminium gearbox with a retarder, Euro VI, a declared 75.5-tonne GCW, and automatic air conditioning in a high-roof cab.
On long climbs at altitude the working number is torque held at road speed, and both trucks are documented: the EST-A's 2,193 N·m at 1,400 rpm against the Galaxy's 2,600 N·m from 1,000 to 1,400 rpm — 407 N·m more, on a 560 hp engine the EST-A cannot match on paper. The Galaxy's declared retarder is the stronger engine-braking document — relevant on the descents that follow the climbs — while the EST-A's air suspension is the declared ride advantage for driver retention on rough corridor sections.
The EST-A carries 420 + 260 litres — 680 litres total. The Galaxy carries 850 + 350 — 1,200 litres, the largest package in this comparison and a genuine operating advantage on the long, empty legs between Antofagasta and the interior. Neither listing declares consumption, so the planning radius cannot be computed from the data; a tested figure at your combination weight is the number to obtain from the dealer.
The honest model is: the Galaxy's 520 extra litres remove fuel planning from the longest legs, and on a corridor where a missed fuel stop costs a shift, that is worth money. The EST-A's 680 litres is a working corridor package that plans around stops — cheaper to carry, and adequate if your legs are segmented.
Both trucks now declare a combination rating: the Galaxy at 75.5 tonnes against the EST-A's 50,000 kg — 25.5 tonnes apart, and both figures are verifiable from the listings. For heavy concentrate and supply combinations the Galaxy's rating is the one with headroom to spare; the EST-A's 50,000 kg covers standard container and dry-van work but not the heaviest mine combinations.
For standard container and dry-van work at legal weights the EST-A's 50,000 kg GCW is a working rating. For heavy mine-contract combinations the deciding number is the Galaxy's 75.5 tonnes — and on this data, the truck that declares it is the one that is not listed for Chile.
The listings price at $64,647 and $88,500. The $23,853 gap buys: 120 more horsepower, 407 N·m more declared torque, Euro VI against Euro V, 25.5 tonnes more declared GCW, a declared retarder, 520 more litres of tank, and automatic air conditioning. It does not buy a declared market listing or a documented local support network — both of which are dealer questions on the Galaxy.
The sensible sequence for a Chilean fleet: shortlist the EST-A because it is the listed, documented truck for this market, and put the Galaxy through the dealer's written answers on configuration and local support. If those answers come back complete and your combinations run heavy, the Galaxy's declared numbers — 2,600 N·m, 75.5 tonnes, Euro VI — earn its premium; if they do not, the EST-A is the specification the data actually supports.

The EST-A 6×2R — its sales field names Chile and its use case describes copper mine haulage. The Galaxy's title references Mexico and Peru with empty sales and coverage fields, so its suitability for this market is entirely a dealer question.
The Galaxy declares 75.5 tonnes; the EST-A declares 50,000 kg. For standard container and dry-van work either is in class; for the heaviest mine combinations only the Galaxy has the rating.
The Galaxy declares a retarder with its 12TX2621TD gearbox. The EST-A's retarder status is undeclared — on a corridor with long descents, confirm what engine braking is available before ordering.
On the long empty legs between the port and the interior, 520 extra litres removes fuel planning from the route — real money when a missed stop costs a shift. If your legs are segmented, the EST-A's 680 litres is adequate and $23,853 cheaper.
Consumption on both, and any local support network on the Galaxy. The support question matters most: get it answered in writing before the order.
