Auman EST 8x4 Cargo Truck: Picking the Right Build Among Four Price Points

There is a specific moment in every fleet renewal when someone asks why the quotes for what sounds like the same truck differ by twenty thousand dollars. With the Auman EST 8X4 cargo truck, that gap is not a negotiating position — it is four genuinely different vehicles sharing one model name, priced at roughly 44,000, 52,000 and 66,000 USD across the sheet. They differ by engine, wheelbase, gearbox and cab trim, and the declared uses run from urban construction waste to highway dump work, green pass, cold chain and general distribution. If you are specifying for a refrigerated box or a muck-away body, two of those four will be right for you and two will cost you money every week you own them.

Four price points, and what actually changes between them

Start with the money, because it frames everything else. The sheet lists 306,250 CNY (about 44,000 USD) for the EST Basic Edition on 7,800 ml and 350 hp; 306,250 CNY again for a 440 hp build on 11,800 ml; 362,500 CNY (about 52,000 USD) for the 8X4 400 PS high-roof cargo truck on 11,600 ml; and 464,400 CNY (about 66,000 USD) for the EST Xinghui Edition high-roof 8×4 on 11,500 ml and 430 hp. Four power ratings appear across the range — 350, 430, 440 and 460 hp — and the wheelbases move with them: 2,100 + 2,750 + 1,350 mm, 2,100 + 2,750 + 1,400 mm, 2,100 + 4,200 + 1,400 mm and 2,100 + 2,300 + 1,400 mm.

That wheelbase list is the most useful line on the page. The 2,100 + 4,200 + 1,400 mm chassis is the long one, and it is the only build that makes sense if you need body length for a refrigerated box. The 2,100 + 2,300 + 1,400 mm and 2,100 + 2,750 + 1,350 mm chassis are city-freight dimensions — short enough to turn, long enough to carry a legal load. Match the wheelbase to your body before you match the engine to your ego.

Engines: Weichai and Foton Cummins, and which one suits your route

The range draws on both Weichai and Foton Cummins, and the choice is not cosmetic. The WP8.350E61A is the 7,800 ml, 350 hp unit behind the entry price, and it is the engine specified with 11.00R20 18PR tyres and a 13-tonne double-reduction rear axle on the shortest wheelbase. The A12NS6B440 is an 11,800 ml, 440 hp Foton Cummins unit. Above it sits a 460 hp build on 11,600 ml with a Fast 12-speed gearbox, and the Xinghui Edition runs the WP12.430E62 on 11,500 ml at 430 hp. All four are National VI diesel.

The buyer's question is not which engine is best but which one matches the load and the terrain. A 7.8-litre engine at 350 hp is a city tool: light, cheap to buy, and adequate when the runs are short and flat. Once you are carrying heavy loads or working intercity, the 11.5- and 11.8-litre units earn their keep through torque rather than headline power. Ask your dealer for the torque figure and the engine speed at which it peaks for the exact unit you are being quoted — the sheet lists power but not the curve, and that is what your drivers will feel on a loaded pull away from a roundabout.

"Displacement is what carries the load. Horsepower is what gets written on the brochure."

Gearboxes, and the power take-off question nobody asks early enough

Four transmission specifications appear: a 12-speed direct-drive unit, the 12JSDX240A, a Fast 12-speed, and the 12JSDX240A (Q). The important detail hides in the class descriptions. The entry 350 hp build's 12-speed 1,600 Nm aluminium-case unit is specified without a power take-off. Two of the other columns list a 9-speed 1,190 Nm unit, also without a PTO. Only the top build gets the 12-speed 2,400 Nm aluminium-case box with an auxiliary box, bevel-gear main box and synchroniser.

If you are hanging a refrigerated body off this chassis — and cold chain is one of the declared uses — the PTO question decides the whole specification. A reefer unit needs a drive, and a gearbox sold without a PTO means either a separate engine on the body or an expensive retrofit. Settle how the refrigeration unit is driven before you sign, and get the gearbox code written into the order rather than the marketing name.

Axles, tyres and the chassis underneath the cab

Three of the four builds run a Mercedes-Benz double-stage rear axle; the entry 350 hp column uses a 13-tonne double-reduction unit with AM90L-S steering gear. Tyre specification splits the same way: 11.00R20 18PR with 13 tyres on the entry build, 12.00R20 18PR with 12 tyres on the three upper builds. Fuel tanks are aluminium alloy throughout — 350 litres on three columns, 300 litres on the Xinghui Edition.

Cab, technology and whether drivers will stay

The Xinghui Edition is where the comfort money goes, and the specification list explains the premium: a 360-degree panoramic camera, electronic parking brake, rotary gear shift, airbag seats, a small table and control panel, and a 220 Ah battery with a 1,000 W inverter. That inverter and battery pair is genuinely useful for cab loads, but be clear about its limits — it covers the cab, not a refrigeration unit. If you need standby power for a reefer, that is a separate conversation.

"A 220 Ah battery and a 1,000 W inverter run a kettle and a phone charger. They do not run a reefer."

Running costs: what the manufacturer claims and what you should model

Foton quotes consumption of about 25 litres per 100 km and puts the saving at roughly 1,400 dollars a month against an older truck. Treat that as a manufacturer comparison, not a budget line: your figure will move with the engine you pick, whether 350, 430, 440 or 460 hp, and with load, terrain and driver behaviour. Model it on your own diesel price and your own route before the finance department sees the number.

The service intervals are the more interesting claim, because they are where a distribution fleet actually saves money. Foton quotes a 150,000 km engine maintenance cycle and a 300,000 km transmission cycle. Confirm both in writing for your market and your duty cycle — long intervals are usually conditional, and urban construction waste work is about as far from a highway duty cycle as you can get.

Which build should you actually order?

For urban construction waste on short, flat city runs, the 350 hp WP8.350E61A with the 13-tonne double-reduction axle and 11.00R20 tyres at 44,000 dollars is the honest answer; you are not buying displacement you will never use. For heavier loads or intercity work, the 440 hp A12NS6B440 with the Mercedes-Benz double-stage axle and 12JSDX240A gearbox at 52,000 dollars is the better base. For a long refrigerated body, the 2,100 + 4,200 + 1,400 mm wheelbase with the 440 hp engine and Fast 12-speed gearbox gives you the chassis length, provided you resolve the PTO. The Xinghui Edition at about 66,000 dollars is the one to specify when driver retention, not hardware, is your constraint.

Two things remain outside the sheet. No country is listed for this vehicle, so shipping, right-hand or left-hand drive availability and local homologation all need confirming with the distributor rather than assuming. And no residual value claim is published — price the deal on total cost of ownership, where the lower capital cost has to carry the uncertainty of a newer badge in your market.

Questions buyers ask before signing

Which EST 8×4 specification works for a refrigerated box?

Cold chain is one of the declared uses, and the 2,100 + 4,200 + 1,400 mm wheelbase version with the 440 hp A12NS6B440 and a Fast 12-speed gearbox gives you the chassis length for a long reefer body. Two things to check: whether the gearbox you order has a power take-off, because the entry 350 hp version's 12-speed 1,600 Nm aluminium unit is specified without one, and how the refrigeration unit is driven. The 220 Ah battery and 1,000 W inverter cover cab loads only.

What running costs should I budget per 100 km?

Foton quotes about 25 litres per 100 km, which it puts at roughly 1,400 dollars a month saved against an older truck. Factor in the service side as well: the engine maintenance cycle is quoted at 150,000 km and the transmission at 300,000 km, which is where the real saving on a distribution fleet comes from. Consumption will move with the engine you pick, as well as load and terrain, so model it on your own diesel price.

Is 350 hp enough for construction waste hauling?

For urban construction waste on short, flat city runs, yes: the 350 hp WP8.350E61A with a 13-tonne double-reduction rear axle and 11.00R20 tyres on the 2,100 + 2,750 + 1,350 mm wheelbase is listed at about 44,000 dollars. If you carry heavier loads or run intercity, the 440 hp A12NS6B440 with the Mercedes-Benz double-stage axle and 12JSDX240A gearbox at about 52,000 dollars is the better base, and the Xinghui Edition at roughly 66,000 dollars adds the high-comfort cab.
