Everyone pricing an 80-tonne tipper eventually hits the same fork in the road. Do you buy the shortest chassis that can physically hold the load, or the one that spreads it across enough axles to stay inside the law on a soft site? If your day involves demolition waste, overburden, aggregates or building materials, that decision determines how many of your loads actually arrive legal. The Foton Auman Dump Truck 8x4 80T GTL-E sits firmly on the second side of that fork, and at a listed $58,520 it deserves a careful read before you sign anything.
The factory positions this chassis against four segments, and reading them against the spec settles whether it belongs in your fleet. Demolition waste wants volume and a body that survives an excavator dropping rock into it. Overburden work is short-cycle, soft-ground hauling where axle count matters more than speed. Building materials — brick, block, concrete — hit the weight limit before the volume limit. Soil and stone is the everyday version of the same problem.
All four are machine-loaded and hydraulically tipped, none involves fine manoeuvring in a city, and each punishes a chassis that runs out of axle capacity early. The sheet also shows overall length at 10,600 or 10,800 mm on a 1,800 + 4,300 + 1,400 mm wheelbase. If your haul road is a narrow bush track rather than a graded pit road, measure it against that length first.
Power comes from the Foton Cummins ISG, listed as ISG12, with a displacement of 11,800 ml. The confusing line on the sheet — 316/430/1900 — is standard decoding: 316 kW and 430 ps at 1,900 r/min. Torque is the number that matters here: 2,200 Nm from 1,000 rpm.
That low-rev plateau is what you want under a loaded tipper pulling away from a dig face — fewer downshifts, less clutch slip on a grade. Fuel is diesel, and the emission field reads "no emissions" with no after-treatment route, which keeps the hardware simple. It also means this configuration cannot be registered where a Euro standard is enforced, so check that before you order.
"Peak horsepower sells trucks. Torque at 1,000 rpm is what gets a loaded tipper moving off the face without destroying the clutch."
This truck carries a 31,000 kg GVW against roughly 25,000 kg on a 6x4 of the same family, so the body can be filled to its full 7.8 or 8 metre length rather than running out of plated capacity first. The two steering axles spread contact load on soft ground — the surface you tip on — and add stability with the body raised.
The costs are real too: a 10.6–10.8 m chassis with a wider turning circle, a second steer axle to maintain, and 13 tyres to replace instead of 11. If your site is confined, the 6x4 is still the better tool.
Ratings are 9 tonnes front and 16 tonnes on each of the middle and rear axles, on a 5.26 drive axle ratio. The frame section is given as 225/320 × 90 × (8+7) mm — effectively a reinforced double frame, which is the right hardware when torsional loads spike as material slides out of a raised body on uneven ground. Suspension is leaf throughout, with 11, 11 and 14 leaves.
Leaf is the correct choice for pit and quarry work: nothing to puncture, and the packs double as a load indicator you can read at a glance. No stabiliser bar is listed, so ask whether one can be added if your haul roads are badly cambered.
A Sinotruk HW-12MT is fitted, itemised as the HW23712 Iron (Q) 12-speed splitter. Twelve ratios let a driver hold the engine where torque lives as grades and surfaces change, instead of falling off the plateau between gears.
The 5.26 final drive behind it is a deliberate torque choice, not an oversight: it multiplies torque to move 80,000 kg GCW on soft ground. Expect to work the upper gears hard on tar and to accept a modest cruising speed. For long sealed hauls, request a taller rear axle ratio from the option list.
The cab is flat top, left-hand rudder, two seats, on a 2,490 mm body width. Standard trim is better than most buyers expect at this price: automatic air conditioning, electric windows, central locking, remote locking and an airbag-suspended driver seat. That last item matters most for driver retention on rutted haul roads.
What is absent is equally visible: manual mirrors, no radar, MP3/radio/USB only. Every one of those has an option code, along with tyre patterns, tank, battery and satellite positioning. Since this truck reverses to a tipping point dozens of times a shift, argue for the radar and camera at build rather than after the first dented corner.
"An operator's specification list is written in sensitivity: airbag seat, automatic air conditioning, honest mirrors. Everything else comes second."
Braking is full air with ABS and drums front and rear. Drums are heavy and dusty but entirely appropriate here: they tolerate site grit better than discs and any competent roadside workshop can service them. Tyres are 13R22.5 18PR in mixed and drive patterns across 13 wheels.
Running-cost logic rests on component familiarity. A Cummins-derived ISG engine and Sinotruk running gear are widely understood across African and Asian markets, which is real leverage on parts and labour. Against that, the sheet gives no fuel injection route and no service intervals, so get both in writing, along with what parts are stocked locally.
The listed price is $58,520. Against a European or Japanese 8x4 of comparable GVW that buys far more truck per dollar, for understandable reasons: fewer electronic layers and no after-treatment hardware. Nor is this a new design — availability dates from 31 October 2023, classified as mature product resources from the Auman Technology Center.
"Mature" should also shape your residual expectation honestly: you are buying low capital cost and simple maintenance, not badge desirability on resale. Sales country is recorded as Ghana with coverage across Angola, DR Congo, Guinea, Cameroon, Côte d'Ivoire, Nigeria, Senegal and East Asia. A coverage list is not a dealer network, so verify who actually holds parts.
For demolition waste, overburden, building materials and soil-and-stone work on soft sites, the eight-wheeler earns its keep. Where the constraint is tight access rather than gross weight, look elsewhere in the range. The Auman GTL-E 80T tipper page is where body length, axle ratio and options get finalised.
The 8x4 BJ3319DPPKC-3 carries 31,000 kg GVW against roughly 25,000 kg on a 6x4, so the body can be loaded to its full 7.8 or 8 metre length legally rather than running out of axle capacity first. The second steering axle spreads load on soft ground and improves stability while tipping. You pay for it with a 10.6–10.8 metre chassis, a wider turning circle, a second steer axle to maintain and 13 tyres instead of 11. On a confined site the 6x4 is still the better tool.
Deliberately so. It is a torque ratio chosen to get 80,000 kg GCW moving on soft or graded ground using the 12-speed HW23712 and 2,200 Nm from 1,000 rpm. Expect to work the upper gears hard on sealed roads and accept a modest cruising speed. For short off-road cycles that is the correct compromise; for long tarred hauls, request a taller rear axle ratio from the option list.
Both lengths are offered, each 2,300 mm wide with 1,500 mm sides, with overall length at 10,600 or 10,800 mm. The longer box favours demolition waste and building materials where volume binds; the shorter one keeps the wheelbase tighter for confined tipping areas. Since the choice alters registration dimensions, confirm it at order stage.
The sheet records no emissions with no after-treatment route, which suits many African and Asian markets and helps explain the $58,520 price. It also means this configuration cannot be homologated where a Euro equivalent is enforced. Check the current requirement with your own registration authority before placing a fleet order.
