Auman Planet 350 hp 8x4 Dump Truck: Built for Slag, Not for Highways

Writer:Alan Chen(Foton Auman dealer)

Slag and construction waste work punishes trucks in a particular way: short cycles, soft ground, constant stopping and starting, and a load that is far denser than the volume suggests. An 8×4 built for that duty needs breakaway torque and a tight turning circle more than it needs top speed. The Auman Planet 350 hp 8×4 dump truck is declared for exactly that segment — urban construction waste — and it is listed at $37,184, which is roughly two-thirds of the price of the GTL 8×4 dump range on the same site. Understanding where that money was saved, and whether it was saved in the right places, is the whole job here.

What the specification says

The announcement model is BJ3311Y6GRS-10, drive type 8×4, wheelbase 2,000 + 2,450 + 1,350 mm. Market segment is urban construction waste type, series 8, model grade Planet, and the stated use is urban construction waste. That is unusually explicit, and it tells you this is not a general-purpose tipper — it is configured for one job.

The engine is the Yuchai YCK08350-60, diesel, 7,698 ml, homologated to China VI, producing 350 ps. Torque is quoted by the manufacturer at 1,200 N·m, with low-speed torque said to be up 100 N·m over comparable engines. Behind it is a Fast 10JSD160T aluminium (Q) ten-speed manual gearbox. Rear axle is a 10 t (233) unit with a 5.26 ratio, self-adjusting arm and ABS. Steering is a domestic 117 cylinder steering gear. Tyres: 13 in total, 12R22.5 18PR mixed. Fuel tank: 350 L aluminium.

"A 5.26 final drive on a 10-tonne axle is a site ratio. It buys breakaway pull and costs you highway revs. Know which you need more."

The 5.26 ratio: the decision that defines this truck

The 5.26 rear axle ratio with the 10-tonne axle and self-adjusting-arm ABS gives the breakaway pull needed to move a loaded 8×4 out of soft ground, which is the defining moment of a slag or muck-away cycle. Ten speeds in the Fast aluminium box keep shifting light in stop-start site work, and the manufacturer claims a large-angle front axle and high-capacity steering cylinder reduce the turning radius by 10% and make steering 30% lighter — both directly relevant when you are threading a loaded truck between spoil heaps.

Cargo box lengths of 8,525, 8,725 or 8,925 mm are offered at 2,550 mm wide.

The trade is on the open road. A 5.26 ratio will run higher revs, more noise and more fuel than a highway-specification truck. Notably, the Planet highway tipper built on the same BJ3311Y6GRS-10 platform is described as using a 4.625 ratio with a 459 single-stage axle instead. So the test is straightforward: if most of your kilometres are paved, ask for the highway ratio; if most of the day is loading, tipping and manoeuvring on site, keep the 5.26 and accept the highway penalty. Do not let the default choose for you.

Box dimensions and what you are actually buying

Cargo box dimensions are given as 8,525 / 8,725 / 8,925 × 2,550 × 3,410 / 3,000 / 3,260 mm — three length options and three corresponding height options. That spread matters because slag and construction waste are dense: you will usually hit legal weight before you hit volume, so the shorter, taller box may actually be the more useful configuration. Decide from your weighbridge tickets, not from the brochure.

Confirm whether the body, tailgate and cover system are included in the price.

On the price itself: the $37,184 refers to the truck as specified — BJ3311Y6GRS-10, the ten-speed Fast aluminium gearbox, the 350-litre aluminium tank and thirteen 12R22.5 18PR tyres. Ocean freight, insurance and destination charges are quoted separately, so give the seller your discharge port for a landed figure. Critically, confirm in writing whether the body, tailgate and any tarp or cover system are included, because on a waste and slag truck those are usually priced to your local specification and can move the number substantially.

Cab, driver comfort and the fuel-efficiency claims

The cab is where the Planet punches above its price. The manufacturer specifies an ultra-wide sleeping berth with a lower bunk 700 mm and an upper bunk 695 mm wide, a fully floating four-airbag cab suspension, a flat floor, and ventilated and heated seats. On a truck that spends its day being loaded, tipped and manoeuvred, a comfortable cab is not indulgence — it is what determines whether you keep a driver.

Flat floor, ventilated and heated seats, and bunks 700 mm and 695 mm wide.

On running costs, the manufacturer cites low aerodynamic drag, low rolling-resistance tyres, an Engine Power Brake, an electronically controlled silicone oil fan, and a Smart USFE system with a high-efficiency turbocharger and low-friction design said to cut fuel consumption by up to 5% and save up to $1,859 per year. Weight saving is quoted at 254 kg from aluminium fuel and air tanks, with the engine itself weighing 520 kg. Treat all of these as manufacturer claims and verify them on your own routes; the one with real purchase implications is the weight saving, because on a weight-limited waste operation every kilogram of tare is a kilogram of payload.

"On a slag truck you hit the weighbridge limit before you hit the box limit. Tare weight is payload, and payload is revenue."

China VI, maintenance and residual value

The emission standard is China VI, which brings the familiar dependency: aftertreatment needs ultra-low-sulphur diesel and clean DEF. If your site bowser and your route fuel cannot guarantee both, say so before ordering rather than after the first derate, and confirm that your market recognises China VI for import. On maintenance the brand picture is straightforward — Yuchai engines and Fast gearboxes are widely used and generally well supported, which keeps parts and training ordinary. Ask what the service intervals are for the aftertreatment and what a DPF replacement costs in your market, because that is the line item most likely to surprise you.

Urban construction waste is the declared segment for this configuration.

At $37,184 against roughly $53,900 for a 490 ps GTL 8×4, the gap is explained by power, axle rating and platform grade — 350 ps and a 10-tonne rear axle here against 490 ps and Mercedes double-stage axles there. Whether that gap is worth closing depends on your route mix. If your day is site work, the Planet is the better value. If you run long paved transfers, the GTL's higher power and taller gearing will earn the difference back.

Questions buyers ask before signing

Is this 8×4 spec right for slag and construction waste?

Urban construction waste is its declared segment. The Yuchai YCK08350-60 makes 350 hp and 1,200 N·m from 7.7 litres, with low-speed torque said to be up 100 N·m over comparable engines, and the 5.26 rear axle ratio on the 10-tonne axle with self-adjusting-arm ABS gives the breakaway pull needed to move loaded out of soft ground. Box lengths of 8,525, 8,725 and 8,925 mm are offered, and the ten-speed Fast aluminium gearbox keeps shifting light in stop-start site work.

Is the 5.26 axle ratio a problem on highways?

It is a site ratio, so on the open road it will run higher revs, more noise and more fuel than a highway-spec truck. The Planet highway tipper on the same BJ3311Y6GRS-10 platform uses a 4.625 ratio with a 459 single-stage axle instead. The test is simple: if most of your kilometres are paved, order the highway ratio; if most of the day is loading, tipping and manoeuvring on site, keep the 5.26 and accept the highway penalty.

Does the $37,184 price include body and shipping?

The $37,184 refers to the truck as specified: BJ3311Y6GRS-10, the Fast 10JSD160T aluminium gearbox, the 350-litre aluminium tank and thirteen 12R22.5 18PR tyres. Ocean freight, insurance and destination charges are quoted separately, so share your discharge port for a landed figure. Confirm in writing whether the body, tailgate and any tarp or cover system are included, because those are usually priced to your local specification.

What else should I confirm?

Payload and axle ratings are not published, so get them in writing. Confirm which of the three box lengths and heights you are being quoted for. Ask for the China VI service intervals and DPF replacement cost in your market, and confirm that your country recognises China VI for import before paying a deposit.

Wheelbase is 2,000 + 2,450 + 1,350 mm, keeping the turning circle tight.

If your work is genuinely urban construction waste and slag — soft ground, short cycles, constant manoeuvring — this is a well-matched, well-priced 8×4 and the cab specification is better than the price suggests. If a meaningful share of your kilometres is paved trunking, ask for the highway ratio or look at the GTL range instead.
