Auman GTL 6x4 55T Slag And Sand Truck For South America Reviewed

Writer:Alan Chen(Foton Auman dealer)

There is a particular kind of confidence that comes with a mechanical specification: steel springs, a manual gearbox, drums and no after-treatment to feed. In markets where the nearest capable workshop is two days away and the diesel comes from a drum, that confidence is worth real money. The Auman GTL 6x4 55T box dump truck for South America is built on exactly that logic, listed at $46,700 with a FOB figure of $42,600 recorded, and it is configured for earth, stone, sand and slag across a very long list of countries.

Three jobs, one rather useful breadth

The factory lists this chassis for transporting earth and stone, transporting sand, and slag hauling. Those three dominate across Latin America and the Philippines, and they have a shared requirement worth naming: none of them rewards speed, and all of them reward durability against abrasion.

Sand and earth are loaded by machine, hauled over surfaces that change with the weather, and tipped repeatedly; slag adds heat and sharp, dense material that punishes floors. A specification that answers all three is a specification built around plate thickness, gearing and suspension — all three of which are visible on this sheet.

430 hp and 2,000 Nm across the working range

The engine is the Foton Cummins ISGe3-430, an 11,800 ml diesel rated at 430 horsepower, producing 2,000 Nm between 1,000 and 1,400 rpm. That range, rather than a peak figure, is what determines behaviour on a haul road: a broad plateau means the engine holds its pull as the gears are worked and the surface changes.

Transmission is the Fast Gear 12JSDX240T(Q) with an iron casing — twelve ratios, a manual shift and a maker whose products are familiar to workshops well beyond China. Emission is Euro III with no after-treatment route recorded, which removes any dependency on AdBlue and keeps both purchase price and running complexity down.

"Twelve ratios, an iron casing, no urea tank. In remote territories that combination is worth more than a horsepower headline."

Is the 5.26 ratio right for haul roads?

With 2,000 Nm available from 1,000 to 1,400 rpm through the 12-speed, a 5.26 drive axle ratio gives confident starts on soft ground and on the muddy or sandy haul roads this region produces. There is no substitute for low-speed multiplication when a loaded six-wheeler has to break traction politely without destroying the clutch.

The trade is a lower top speed on paved transfer sections. If your cycle is mostly highway with short dump runs, that trade is expensive in time, and the option list carries Q1 through Q6 rear axle codes, so ask for a taller ratio and matching tyre choice before ordering. Tell the dealer honestly how much of your shift is on tar, because the answer changes the specification.

Reading the weight figures honestly

Rated GVW is 50,000 kg with no GCW recorded, against axle ratings of 7.5 tonnes front and 16 tonnes on the middle and rear axles. Those figures do not reconcile by themselves, and a buyer who nods along risks discovering later that his plated weights and his loading practice disagree.

Before you commit, get three things in writing: what the 50,000 kg refers to on the BJ3259DLPKB-1 approved model, what your authority will actually plate, and how the axle limits are enforced on your routes. Then set your loading practice from the lowest of those numbers, not the highest.

What really fits in the 5.6 m body

Internal dimensions are 5,600 (5,400) × 2,300 × 1,100 mm, roughly 14 cubic metres by the arithmetic. Whether that limits you depends entirely on what goes in it. With rock or slag you hit the weight limit long before the box is full; with sand and lighter material, volume is what binds.

So decide from density and then specify the plate to match. A shorter body in thicker plate costs you nothing on a dense-material job and last longer against abrasion, while clinging to maximum volume you cannot legally fill simply adds tare. The 16-tonne rear axles and 9/12-leaf packs are specified for exactly this kind of abuse.

ZF steering, mixed-use tyres and keeping it working

Steering is the ZF8098 unit, which alongside Fast and Cummins components gives a component set your workshop is likely to recognise. Tyres are 12R22.5 in a mixed-use U8 pattern across eleven wheels, with U8, Z8, XD, ZD, NA, ZL and U9 alternatives listed.

Mixed-use tread is the right default for an operation that spends part of its day on the road and part on site, but check what your local suppliers stock in 22.5-inch sizes before opting for anything exotic. Braking is full air with ABS and drums front and rear, and the frame is a reinforced 225/320 × 90 × (8+7) mm section over leaf suspension. No stabiliser bar is fitted, though option code H exists, which is worth pricing for cambered mountain haul roads.

"Service interval, parts supply, then horsepower — in that order, if your nearest dealer is a two-day drive."

Registration, cab comfort and the money

This approved model is homologated to Euro III and already sold into Peru, Panama, Bolivia, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, the Philippines, Jamaica and Grenada. A list that long tells you the left-hand drive package is proven across very different conditions — but registration rules change, so confirm the standard your authority currently accepts before ordering and ask for compliance paperwork to travel with the shipment.

The cab is flat roof and left-hand drive for two, with manual air conditioning, power windows, central locking and a unified five-lock arrangement, plus a standard airbag seat. Automatic air conditioning under code K is the single option most worth taking. At a listed $46,700 against a recorded FOB of $42,600, establish what those figures cover and what freight, insurance and duty add.

How we would specify it

  • Confirm Euro III acceptance with your authority and get compliance documents shipped.
  • Ask for a taller axle ratio if your shift is mostly paved transfer.
  • Specify the body from density, not maximum volume, and take thicker plate.
  • Add automatic air conditioning and the MSW radar package at build.
  • Get the landed figure rather than comparing FOB against someone else's CIF.

For earth, stone, sand and slag work where service simplicity is worth more than sophistication, this specification answers properly. The Auman GTL 55T box dumper page is where the ratio, body and paperwork questions get resolved.

Questions buyers ask before signing

Is the 5.26 axle ratio right for haul roads?

With 2,000 Nm available from 1,000 to 1,400 rpm and the 12-speed Fast 12JSDX240T(Q), the 5.26 ratio gives confident starts on soft, muddy or sandy haul roads. The trade-off is a lower top speed on paved transfers. If your cycle is mostly highway with short dump runs, ask about a taller ratio and matching tyre choice before you order.

Can a Euro III GTL be registered in Peru?

This BJ3259DLPKB-1 is homologated to Euro III and already sold into Peru as well as Panama, Bolivia, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, the Philippines, Jamaica and Grenada. Registration rules change, so confirm the emission standard your authority currently accepts for new heavy registrations before ordering, and ask for compliance paperwork to be supplied with the shipment.

How much does the 5.6 m dump body hold?

Internal dimensions of 5,600 (5,400) × 2,300 × 1,100 mm work out at roughly 14 m³ by the numbers, but at 50,000 kg GVW you hit the weight limit long before filling it with rock or slag. Volume matters for sand and light material; density rules for ore. The 16-tonne rear axles and 9/12-leaf springs are specified for exactly this abuse.
