Medium-duty regional freight is where margins are won or lost: enough truck to carry a full load between cities, not so much that you are paying for capacity you never fill. A 12-tonne 4x2 is the classic answer, and the Aumark EST-M 4x2 cargo truck on this sheet pairs a Cummins Euro V engine with a ZF gearbox at $33,267. Before anything else, though, there is a discrepancy worth resolving, and it is the kind that costs money if nobody catches it.
The sales title on this listing describes a 460 hp semi-trailer tractor for Africa. The specification sheet underneath it describes something quite different: an Aumark EST-M cargo truck, 4x2, approved model BJ1126VGPFK-A2, with a 136 kW (185 PS) Cummins ISF4.5S5185, a 12,000 kg gross vehicle weight, and Peru as the sales country. Status is given as complete vehicle, not chassis and not tractor.
We are reviewing the specification sheet, because that is the document with model codes, axle ratings and homologation on it. But put this to the dealer in writing before you order: confirm the approved model code, the sales market, and whether the vehicle is a rigid cargo truck or a tractor. A truck built for the wrong market cannot be re-homologated cheaply.
Gross vehicle weight is 12,000 kg, in the 16-tonne-and-below class. Wheelbase is 5,150 mm, overall chassis dimensions 8,900 × 2,350 × 2,710 mm, and body width 2,200 mm. That is a long, stable platform for a box or dropside body and a genuinely useful amount of load space for city-to-city work carrying construction materials, agricultural products, beverages or general merchandise.
Axle capacities are 3.6 tonnes front and 8 tonnes rear. Since this is listed as a complete vehicle, the body already exists and the payload is the difference — but the sheet does not publish a kerb weight or a rated payload figure. Ask for both. With 3.6 and 8 tonne axles against a 12-tonne gross, and a long wheelbase, how your freight is distributed will decide whether you hit the rear axle limit or the gross limit first.
"The sheet gives a 12,000 kg gross but no kerb weight. Without it you cannot know the payload, and without the payload you cannot quote a rate."
The engine is a Cummins ISF4.5S5185: 4,500 cc, Euro V by the SCR route, producing 136 kW, which is 185 PS. The gearbox is a ZF ZF6S1000 six-speed manual, and the drive axle ratio is 4.875 on an 8-tonne rear axle. That is a short, torque-biased final drive, and it is the right choice if sustained climbs are part of your normal route: it keeps the engine in its usable band instead of lugging.
The cost of that ratio is a lower comfortable cruising speed and higher engine rpm on flat highway. If your work is mostly coastal or flat intercity, ask the dealer to quote a taller ratio instead — this is one of the few specification choices that materially changes both fuel burn and driver fatigue on long days. Torque is not published on this sheet, so ask for the figure and the rpm band it arrives at before comparing against rivals.
This is the running-cost item most buyers underestimate. Meeting Euro V through the SCR route means the truck needs a steady supply of low-sulfur diesel and DEF. Running out of DEF will derate the engine, which on a regional haul is a breakdown by another name. Both are available along Peru's main corridors, but remote or highland routes need planning — a jerrycan of DEF in the cab is cheaper than a recovery.
If your fuel supply is genuinely uncertain, raise it before ordering. A different emission tier may be homologated for your market, but it has to be specified at order, not afterwards. That is a five-minute conversation at the quotation stage and an impossible one once the truck is built.
The cab is a half-row with a flat roof, seating given as two or three depending on configuration — another item to pin down on the order. Standard equipment includes electric air conditioning, an MP3 infotainment system, power windows and door locks with central locking, and manually adjusted, non-heated exterior mirrors. Electric air conditioning is worth having on highland routes where temperature swings across a single day are severe.
Brakes are air-operated with drums front and rear and ABS control. Tyres are 245/70R19.5 16PR, seven including the spare, with AM40L steering gear and a 200-litre aluminium fuel tank — aluminium rather than steel saves weight and does not rust, which matters on a truck working a humid coast and a cold highland in the same week. Suspension is leaf spring at 3 and 4+3 leaves.
"A Cummins engine and a ZF gearbox are the two names a Peruvian workshop most wants to see on an imported truck."
The listed $33,267 covers the complete vehicle as specified, including chassis, cab and the equipment on the sheet. Freight, insurance, port charges and any local bodywork are quoted separately, so share your discharge port and ask for a landed cost. Production and shipping lead time depends on the current build schedule and your specification — get a firm date once the order details are fixed rather than accepting an estimate.
Beyond that: confirm the approved model code and market, as noted above; ask what the importer holds in local parts stock; and get the service interval schedule and warranty terms for Peru in writing. Those are commercial terms, not specification lines, and they are where a cheap truck becomes expensive.

The specification sheet says cargo truck, function cargo, status complete vehicle, approved model BJ1126VGPFK-A2, sales country Peru. The sales title on the same listing says 460 hp semi-trailer tractor for Africa. Those cannot both be right. Ask the dealer to confirm in writing which vehicle ships, with the model code and market named, before any deposit moves.
