Foton Auman EST 6×4 Dump Truck for Guyana: What 430 HP and a 5.26 Final Drive Buy You in Quarry Haulage

Writer:Alan Chen(Foton Auman dealer)

A quarry or mine haul in Guyana is not a highway job. The surface changes weekly, the grades are short and steep, and the truck spends its life loaded both ways — out with stone or overburden, back with fuel and crew. The buyer's real question is not "how fast" but "how reliably it climbs, tips and comes back." That is the only question this article answers.

We cover one scenario — mining and quarry haulage in Guyana — and one truck built for it: the Foton Auman EST 6×4 dump truck in right-hand-drive configuration. Every figure below comes from the homologation data for this listing, and where the listing's own naming and the measured weights disagree, we say so plainly.

The Auman EST 6×4 dump: 430 hp Foton Cummins ISGe3-430, 2,000 N·m, 5.26 final drive, 12.00R24 tyres.

1. The 430 hp Cummins and the torque you actually use

The truck runs a Foton Cummins ISGe3-430 engine with a displacement of 11,800 cc. Rated output is 316 kW / 430 PS at 1,900 r/min, and peak torque is 2,000 N·m at 1,000 r/min. That low-rpm torque plateau is exactly what a tipper wants: you get the pull at the engine speed you sit at crawling up a ramp, not at a redline you would never reach under a loaded body.

Fuel is high-pressure common rail diesel, with a silicone-oil fan and a 350-litre aluminium-alloy tank. The tank size is modest for a mine truck — on a site with its own fuel point that is fine, but if your haul includes a long dead-leg to the pit, check range against your refuelling plan. The listing does not state a combined range, so we will not guess one.

2. Why 5.26 is the right number, and what the grade figures say

The rear axle is a 16-tonne Mercedes-pattern unit with a 5.26 ratio. That steep final drive is the single most important line for quarry work: it trades top speed for the grunt to start a loaded body on a gradient. The data backs this up — maximum gradeability is listed at 33% and maximum speed at 83 km/h, both annotated with the 5.26 ratio. This is a truck calibrated to climb, not to cruise.

The gearbox is a FAST 12JSDX240T in an iron casing, a 12-speed manual with lever actuation and a φ430 mm pull-type clutch on manual hydraulic with air assist. Twelve ratios let the driver keep the engine in its torque band across a brutally variable grade profile. The auxiliary brake is an engine brake, which takes load off the service brakes on the descent — on a repeated tip run that protects both the linings and the driver.

3. The box, the axle loads, and a naming mismatch to resolve

The cargo body measures 6,000 × 2,300 × 1,500 mm, built from Q345B steel with an 8 mm floor and 6 mm side plates and a domestic front-mount telescopic cylinder. That is a durable, repairable spec for rock and overburden rather than a lightweight alloy body for aggregate.

Here is the point you must resolve in writing. The listing is titled "Auman EST 62T" and the series is described as a 62-tonne unit, but the declared GVW on the same sheet is 25,000 kg, the front axle is rated at 9 tonnes and the rear at 16 tonnes. A 62-tonne name against a 25-tonne GVW is a contradiction. The most plausible reading is that "62T" refers to an off-road / combination rating while the road-registered GVW is 25,000 kg — but do not assume. Demand the VIN-level GVW and payload in writing before you pay, because the weighbridge is what will decide it.

4. Cab, steering and the daily-driver details

The truck is right-hand drive, which matches Guyana's traffic side. The cab is a flat-roof GTL-2490 type on a full-floating rear-airbag suspension with electric tilt, an airbag driver seat, electric windows, central locking and manual rearview mirrors. Automatic air conditioning is standard — welcome in a hot, dusty pit environment.

Brakes are dual-circuit air with drum front and rear, parking via spring-energy air-release, and ABS is present on the axle. Tyres are 12.00R24 20PR drive-pattern on an 11/14 leaf-spring layout front and rear, with an integrated balance bogie at the back. The overall dimensions are 9,100 × 2,550 × 3,914 mm on an 8,000 mm chassis, with a 4,100 + 1,400 mm wheelbase. The product model is BJ3259DLPKE-RA.

5. The emission standard to confirm before import

The engine is listed at China Stage III emission. That is broadly comparable to Euro III, but the two are not identical on paper, and Guyana's import and registration rules may reference one nomenclature or the other. The data gives no alternative emission route for this variant. Confirm with your clearing agent exactly which standard your permit requires and whether China Stage III is accepted, and get that answer in writing before ordering.

Axle-load law and the road reality in Guyana

Guyana applies axle-load limits in line with regional Mercosur practice — a single-axle limit around 10–10.5 t, a tandem around 18 t and gross combination weight near 45 t — enforced by the Guyana Revenue Authority. Guyana is riding an offshore-oil boom, and Georgetown is the gateway to the interior. The practical catch is that the oil boom is pulling in construction and mining trucks, and a fresh, correctly specced unit beats a tired import. The core business is oil-field, gold and bauxite freight, and the terrain is the differentiator: a truck bought for flat-ground numbers loses legal capacity where the grade and the bridge limits bite.

For a tipper the binding constraint is the haul from the pit to the trunk road, where the the road authority weighbridge is the point where an over-loaded unit collects its fine — and oil-field, gold and bauxite freight runs through here, so the box that fills to the headline weight on site can be over the axle caps before it reaches the highway.

What Guyanese fleets already run

In Guyana the reference vehicle is a used Japanese truck — Isuzu and Hino dominate the second-hand market — with European brands (Volvo, Scania, Mercedes-Benz) in the premium segment, Sinotruk and Shacman as the established Chinese players, and local assembly in some markets. The used Japanese truck wins on parts density but loses on age and the rebuild cost that lands within a couple of years. The new Chinese truck wins on warranty and a clean bill of health. The mountain grades and long corridors are where a fresh, correctly specced truck beats a tired one, and that is Foton’s pitch.

6. Pre-order checklist

Resolve the GVW contradiction first. The "62T" name versus the 25,000 kg declared GVW must be explained in writing with the VIN-level payload before any deposit.

Confirm the emission acceptance. China Stage III is not automatically Euro III. Verify your permit's requirement and get written confirmation it is accepted.

Check your axle-load limits. 9 t front and 16 t rear must sit under your route's bridge and pit-road limits; the weighbridge decides, not the badge.

Plan fuel around the 350 L tank. If the haul to the pit is long, confirm range or arrange on-site refuelling rather than assuming a big reserve.

On its merits the Auman EST 6×4 is a credible quarry tipper: a low-rpm 2,000 N·m Cummins, a 5.26 axle built to climb, and a steel body sized for rock. The only thing standing between you and a sound order is the GVW naming mismatch and the emission label — both are cheap to resolve on paper and expensive to discover at the port.
