A Lebanese distributor’s day has two shapes. One is the dense, slow, stop-start run through Beirut or Tripoli — deliveries to shops, building suppliers and cold stores where the truck has to fit the street and launch from every junction. The other is the faster, hillier run up to the Bekaa or down the coast, where the load is full and the grades are real. The truck that does both without a second vehicle is a 4×2 cargo chassis at around 22 tonnes GVW: light enough for the city, strong enough to leave it loaded.
This article stays on one scenario — Urban & Regional Distribution in Lebanon — and one vehicle: the Foton Aumark EST-M 22T 4×2 diesel cargo truck (listing 20260922244). Every figure below is from that listing. Where the listing carries a label that does not match a Lebanon buyer’s reality, it is flagged rather than smoothed over.
The truck carries a Dongfeng Cummins ISDe245 30 of 6,700 cc. The headline power is 245 hp (180 kW), with 950 Nm of torque. For Lebanon’s mixed duty that torque figure is the one that counts: it gets a full box away from a junction without thrashing the clutch, and it holds a loaded climb into the mountains without dropping a gear at every corner. The engine model “ISDe245” denotes the 245 hp rating, which matches the listing’s headline; the 180 kW field is the same output in kilowatts — the two are consistent.
Transmission is a Shaanxi Fast 8JS105TA eight-speed manual (F-8MT), behind a 4.875 final drive. Eight ratios with that drive axle is a good spread for a truck that never sees a motorway but does see gradients: a low first for launch, a tall top for the flat coastal straights. No automated gearbox is listed, so budget for a driver competent on a manual.
Cargo-body internal dimensions are 6,500 × 2,400 × 600 mm. Read the 600 mm as the platform base height, not a closed van — this is a chassis for a box, curtain-side or flatbed that your bodybuilder adds. With a 22,000 kg GVW, a 5.5-tonne front axle and a 10-tonne rear axle, realistic payload is roughly 12–14 tonnes once cab, fuel and body are counted. Check that against your typical pallet or bag load before you commit to the body design.
Standard tyres are 10.00R20 tube-type radials on seven wheels (six plus spare). The listing also offers tubeless options — 11R22.5, 275/80R22.5 and 295/80R22.5 — worth taking if most of your running is sealed road, since a tubeless repair is quicker at the roadside. Fuel is a single 200-litre tank, ample for a full day of city and regional work. Suspension is leaf spring, ten-leaf front and 10+8 rear, set up for load rather than a soft ride.
The cab is a row-and-a-half layout — a proper passenger seat plus rear storage — with central locking, electric windows, an MP3 head unit and a manual air conditioner as standard; an electric air conditioner is listed as an option. For a two-person crew on the regional runs, the row-and-a-half cab is the right choice over a pure day cab, and the manual A/C is adequate given Lebanon’s climate if the optional electric unit is not taken.

Under the body sits a 250 mm-section ladder frame, the same heavy chassis architecture as the rest of the EST-M range, and it is what lets you pile a 22-tonne GVW onto a 4×2 without worrying about twist on poor roads. Suspension is leaf spring throughout — a ten-leaf front and a 10+8 rear stack — tuned for load rather than a car-like ride. For Lebanon’s mix of sealed coastal roads and rougher inland climbs, that robustness matters more than a softer suspension you cannot repair locally.
Braking is air brake with ABS, the right choice at this weight: fade-resistant on long descends and built from components standard across the Foton heavy range, so a competent workshop can source and fit them. The central-locking and electric-window standard body, the MP3 head unit and the manual air conditioner keep the cab simple and cheap to maintain. None of this is exotic, and that is the point — a distribution truck earns its keep by staying on the road, and a 250 mm frame with air ABS brakes and leaf springs is about as field-serviceable as this class gets.
One practical note for a Lebanon buyer: the 200-litre tank and the seven-wheel 10.00R20 layout mean a flat does not ground the truck, and the manual transmission keeps the driveline simple. Spec the optional electric air conditioner if your routes run long and hot, because the standard manual unit puts more on the driver in summer traffic.
The emission standard is Euro III. Whether that clears first registration in Lebanon — and whether local diesel quality is friendly to a Euro III calibration — is a question for your import authority, so confirm it before ordering. Separately, the listing’s declared sales country is Saudi Arabia, not Lebanon. That is the base market the configuration was written for; the truck itself is a generic EST-M platform. Ask the supplier to confirm the unit offered to you carries the same announcement model (BJ1226VMPHG-1) and specification, and is built left-hand drive as listed.
Lebanon applies axle-load limits on a Middle Eastern / Mediterranean pattern — a single-axle limit around 13 t, a tandem near 24 t and gross combination weight near 44 t — enforced by the Traffic Management Center. Beirut is a trans-shipment gateway, but the economy has been through a long crisis. The practical catch is that the fuel and currency crunch means acquisition cost and parts availability decide the deal. The core business is port, bonded-warehouse and distribution freight, and a truck that is cheap to buy but expensive to run spends more of its life parked than earning.
For a distribution rigid the risk is the axle split — load the nose heavy and the steering axle is over before the gross weight approaches the rated figure, which is the most common cause of a fine on an urban trunk route.
In Lebanon the reference vehicle is a used Japanese truck — Isuzu, Hino and Mitsubishi Fuso dominate the second-hand market — with European brands in the premium segment, Sinotruk Howo and Shacman as the main Chinese competition, and a large gray-market used fleet in some markets. The used Japanese truck wins on parts density but loses on age and the rebuild cost that lands within a couple of years. The new Chinese truck wins on warranty and a clean bill of health. Foton’s pitch is the middle ground.
Confirm the Euro III registration path. If your permit requires a higher standard, this engine line is a blocker. Verify it with your import authority first.
Resolve the Saudi Arabia sales tag. The listing is written for Saudi Arabia; ask the supplier to confirm the Lebanon-bound unit matches announcement model BJ1226VMPHG-1 and is built left-hand drive.
Specify the body, not just the chassis. The 600 mm figure is the platform base height. Decide box, curtain-side or flatbed and price it separately.
Choose the tyre option deliberately. Standard 10.00R20 tube-type vs offered tubeless 11R22.5 / 275-80R22.5 / 295-80R22.5 — match it to your road mix and spare availability.
The Aumark EST-M is a no-surprises 22-tonne 4×2 with a torquey 6.7-litre Cummins and an eight-speed box — exactly the profile a Lebanese city-and-regional operator wants. The price shown is the published listing figure and a starting point for enquiry only; bodywork, freight and duties are additional. Confirm the points above in writing, then work back to your landed cost.
