A Guatemalan distributor does not need one giant truck; he needs a ladder of light rigids that match the load in front of him. The 400-kilo market run, the 5-tonne intercity consignment, the tight city alley that a long wheelbase cannot enter — these are different jobs, and Foton's Aumark range covers them with three 4×2 cargo models that share a family look but differ where it counts: wheelbase, payload and engine size.
This article covers one scenario for Guatemala: urban and regional distribution. Three Foton listings fit it — two Aumark S 8.5-tonners and one smaller Aumark E 6-tonner — and every figure below comes from their specification sheets. One honesty note up front: the two Aumark S listings declare their markets as Africa (Egypt, Tunisia) and Sudan respectively, while the Aumark E lists Guatemala among its sales countries. Confirm Guatemalan delivery and documentation for all three before ordering.

Both Aumark S models are rated at 8,500 kg GVW on a 4×2 layout, powered by the Foton Cummins F3.8s3141, a 3.76-litre diesel making 141 hp (105 kW) and 450 N·m, through a ZF 6S558 six-speed manual. The rear axle on both is a 6.0-tonne unit with a 4.33 ratio, and both carry a three-seat single-row cab on a 2,060 mm width. They differ in two practical ways. The first (id 225) has a 3,800 mm wheelbase, a 160 L aluminium fuel tank, and a flatbed cargo box of 5,140 × 2,100 × 550 mm with a stated flatbed payload of 5,085 kg. The second (id 226) has a shorter 3,360 mm wheelbase and a 120 L aluminium tank — the tighter turning circle of the short version is the one you want for dense city work, while the long version carries more between fuel stops.
Both run 7.50R16 tubeless tyres, front and rear drum air brakes (with an exhaust brake as auxiliary), and leaf-spring suspension. The long-wheelbase unit lists ABS as optional with a load-sensing proportioning valve; confirm whether your unit arrives with ABS fitted, because that is not a detail to discover after delivery.

The third model is a genuine step down in size: the Aumark E, rated at 6,000 kg GVW, on the M4 platform. It runs a Foton 4F25TC7, 2.499-litre diesel producing 158 hp (116 kW) and 400 N·m, through a ZF 5S408 five-speed manual, on a 4.33 drive-axle ratio. The wheelbase is 3,360 mm, the cargo box internal size is 4,170 × 1,960 × 400 mm, and it rides on 6 + 1 tubeless LL7.00R16-12 tyres with a 120 L aluminium tank. Axle ratings are 2.4 t front and 4.5 t rear. This is the right truck for lighter, higher-frequency runs where the 8.5-tonners would be under-loaded — and notably, this is the one of the three whose sheet explicitly lists Guatemala among its sales countries.
The numbers that decide daily usefulness: the long Aumark S carries a 5,085 kg flatbed payload and a 5,140 mm floor; the short Aumark S trades some fuel capacity for manoeuvrability; the Aumark E offers a 4,170 mm floor at 6 tonnes. All three are left-hand drive, all are Euro III, and all use leaf-spring suspension. The Aumark E lists a manual heating/cooling air conditioner as an option and a 7-inch MP5 with reversing camera and Bluetooth as an infotainment option; the Aumark S units list power steering and a manually tilting cab. None makes air conditioning or ABS a guaranteed standard across the board, so specify those in the order.

For dense city distribution where you turn constantly and return to base, the short-wheelbase Aumark S or the Aumark E are the usable choices; the 3,360 mm wheelbase keeps you out of trouble on narrow streets. For regional runs with a heavier, bulkier consignment and fewer fuel stops, the long-wheelbase Aumark S with its 160 L tank and 5,085 kg payload is the better tool. The Aumark E fills the gap for light, frequent loads where an 8.5-tonne truck would simply cost more to run than the work justifies.

Guatemala applies axle-load limits drawn from the NAFTA / Central-American practice — a single-axle limit around 10 t, a tandem around 20 t and gross combination weight near 45 t — enforced by the Ministry of Communications. Guatemala moves banana, coffee and sugar from the highlands to the Pacific and Caribbean ports. The practical catch is that the mountain grades and the wet-season roads punish an over-loaded rigid, so the axle distribution has to be right at the gate. The core business is banana, coffee and export freight, and a truck that is over on the mountain climb or the wet coastal road is the most common failure.
For a distribution rigid the risk is the axle split — load the nose heavy and the steering axle is over before the gross weight approaches the rated figure, which is the most common cause of a fine on an urban trunk route.
In Guatemala the reference vehicle is a used Japanese truck — Isuzu and Hino dominate the second-hand market — with European brands (Volvo, Scania, Mercedes-Benz) in the premium segment, Sinotruk and Shacman as the established Chinese players, and local assembly in some markets. The used Japanese truck wins on parts density but loses on age and the rebuild cost that lands within a couple of years. The new Chinese truck wins on warranty and a clean bill of health. Japanese reconditioned and Chinese trucks mix, and Foton has to pitch on price and a clean bill of health. The mountain grades and long corridors are where a fresh, correctly specced truck beats a tired one, and that is Foton’s pitch.
Confirm Guatemalan delivery for all three. The two Aumark S listings declare markets as Africa and Sudan; only the Aumark E lists Guatemala. Verify documentation and supply for Guatemala before paying.
Specify ABS and air conditioning. ABS is optional on the long Aumark S and not guaranteed standard elsewhere; A/C is optional across the range. Write both into the order.
Pick the wheelbase deliberately. The 3,800 mm Aumark S carries more and runs longer between fuel stops; the 3,360 mm versions manoeuvre better in the city. Choose for the dominant run.
Check the Euro III acceptance. All three are Euro III; confirm this meets your Guatemalan import permit.
All three are listed as complete vehicles, which keeps per-unit import simple. The prices above are the published listing figures and are a starting point for enquiry, not a landed cost — freight, duties and any local bodywork sit on top. Choose the size that matches your typical load, then confirm the destination, ABS and A/C in writing.
