Two sheets answer the same question — an 18-tonne 4×2 chassis cab — four thousand dollars apart. The Costa Rica listing at $35,500 is Euro III on drums with a manual gearbox and a 200-litre tank. The Northern Cyprus listing at $39,500 is Euro VI on discs with a ZF automatic, rear airbag suspension and a 260-litre tank. Neither sheet is wrong; they are priced for different worries.

The ISDe245 30 is a 6700 ml six calibrated to Euro III, and its whole commercial character is what it does not carry: no urea tank, no dosing module, no catalyst substrate to poison. Where diesel quality varies between the port and the interior, and where every taller workshop has rebuilt these engines from hand, that absence is worth real money — it removes the failure categories that dominate modern diesel downtime and leaves commodity wear items: filters, linings, belts, injectors.
The ask is regulatory. A Euro III unit will not qualify everywhere, and the sheet's own caution is the correct one: confirm acceptance where the finished machine will be registered before ordering. Nothing in this article asserts any country's rules — the question belongs to the buyer's registration office, in writing.
The D6.7EVIE320 buys compliance, and compliance has a supply chain: urea to source, a dosing module that can clog, a catalyst that can be poisoned by bad fuel, and a derate that interrupts a delivery round when any of it misbehaves. The sheet does not publish an emission route, so the aftertreatment architecture itself is a question for the order confirmation. In exchange the buyer gets a stronger axle group — 5.5T and 10T against 4.2T and 9T — which at the same 18,000 kg gross is a 2.5-tonne shortfall rather than a 4.8-tonne one.
The rest of the premium is physical. Discs front and rear recover from fade in minutes where drums need kilometres, and the ZF 8095 steering gear is named on the sheet where the Euro III truck's is not. Against that, drums remain the cheaper rebuild and tolerate grit better, and the rear suspension swaps leaf packs for an airbag arrangement the sheet records as Leaf Spring / Airbag with leaf counts 3, 0 — a rear that rides empty and carries laden, at the price of one more system to maintain.
Emission tiers get the headlines; the transmission decides the working day. The Euro III truck carries the 8JS118TA-B, an eight-speed manual in the 118 torque class, iron-housed and rebuildable, with visible headroom over the published 950 N·m. On trunk runs with a regular driver it is the right call, and the cheapest to repair. The Euro VI truck carries the ZF9AS1517TO automatic, which buys shift consistency across a driver pool and removes clutch wear from stop-start multi-drop work — worth its keep in city distribution, indifferent on the open road, and a service-network question in markets where ZF depth is thin.
Registration is tightening, or the truck will be resold in a market that reads certificates — the Euro VI sheet is the defensible purchase, and the site's existing review of it, Euro VI and RHD Worth the Premium?, walks the same arithmetic.
Fuel quality varies and the workshop is a general one — the Euro III sheet keeps the failure categories out of the diary, and its 950 N·m sits in the band a laden box body needs on ramps.
The duty is multi-drop urban with agency drivers — price the automatic before committing, because clutch replacements are the line item a manual gearbox writes into that duty.
The duty is gradient-heavy — note that neither sheet lists an auxiliary brake. The $4,000 buys emission tier, gearbox, discs, airbag and tank size; it does not buy an exhaust brake or a retarder on either listing.
